The 3rd National Business English Practice Contest, organized by Guangdong University of ForeignStudies, is an annual Event jointly hosted by English Language Teaching Advisory Board Under the Ministry of Education and China Association of International Business English. The Contest aims to provide university students with an opportunity to integrate contemporary business theories learned in class with practical fieldwork. Teams of maximum 8 members will be formed to investigate and analyze the success or failure of a chosen business/company. Findings will be presented to the audience using English as the medium of communication. During the Contest each team is given 15 minutes for presentation, followed by 5 minutes of Questions & Answers. The participating teams will be judged on the merits of their business analysis and communication skills. The Awards, including the Champion, the First, Second and Third Prize, will be announced at the end of the Contest.

The event, historically known as Business Presentation Contest, had been successfully held for more than a decade at School of English for International Business, Guangdong University of Foreign Studies, before it was officially launched on an invitational basis in 2011. The Event is now held annually nationwide since 2013. The annual Event has continuously witnessed the rising of highly competent talents who excel themselves in their English proficiency and business analytical skills. Generally speaking, the National Business English Practice Contest attracts contestant teams from an array of keynote universities representing seven major geographical regions, namely the Northeast, North China, Central China, Northwest, East, South and Southwest regions in China. The impact of the Event is enormous, as it involves thousands of university students nationwide. The upcoming glamorous Event is expected to be a higher-level, head-on, close-tie competition among the future business elites from different geographical areas of China.

This year, the theme for the Contest is “Lead the Change”. Contestant teams are charged with the task to investigate how enterprises lead the change not only by internal innovations, but also by benchmarking business practice, transforming communities and/or enhancing societal well-being. The ultimate goal of organizations actively leading the change is to ensure a better life, in a better place and in a better world for all.
